Au fil de l’eau | participatory sound piece (32min52), combining field recordings, saxophone hydrophones, synthesizers and spoken words

“a sonical celebration of a village’s bodies of water“

Work description:

Au fil de l’eau is a sound piece produced in collaboration with musician Désiré LH, as part of the duo project echome, during an artist-in-residence program at Les Bois Frileux in Saint-Julien-du-Sault (FR).This artist-in-residence program involved a variety of activities, such as a hydrophone workshop, interviews and listening sessions with the local community(inhabitants, an elementary school class and residents of a retirement home).

Au fil de l’eau is a sensory journey, a sonic diary born along the waters of Saint-Julien-du-Sault. Conceived as the echo of a shared listening and creative workshop, this project captures the voices and atmospheres of the river landscape through a rare and poetic device: hydrophones, underwater microphones that reveal the hidden musicality of currents and riverbeds.

Through this collective work, echome weaves together aqueous soundscapes, participants’ stories, the murmurs of the river, and instrumental textures. Each moment evokes a dive, a surge, a ricochet,  oscillating between submerged listening and a breath at the surface.

The restitution concert held on April 21st sealed this experience in a live setting, and this soundtrack stands as its living memory: a space for collective listening, a suspended moment where water becomes language, and the ear becomes a vessel.
